Güler Ugur (1970-2014) was an artist born in Turkey, raised in Germany, and in the 1990s she fled to NYC to pursue and capture her dreams. She made an impact on everyone she knew, with her vivid photographs, her generosity, her words tumbling out so fast that it was hard to keep up...to her ceaseless compassion, and passion, for life.
It was said best at her memorial.."If Guler can die...anyone can die." That this vivacious woman is gone in body is hard to comprehend, but her spirit lives on through her art, her framed photographs hanging on so many walls, and her friends. Her death was a tragedy and unfortunately there are many others who have joined her in the same kinds of wrongful, shameful endings that should have been prevented.
